Last Thursday we had such a lovely morning at the local Red Jelly creative play morning where we met lots of lovely mums and their babies and made footprints to help us with our Fairtrade "Babies first steps" campaign. There was lots of paint and lots of mess and the babies loved it! For every painting we took to exhibit, we also gave the mums a print on a card to take away with them. Such a lovely keepsake.
Red Jelly is a great morning for mums and we are really grateful that we were allowed to visit and join in with the messy fun!
Here's some of the artwork the babies created!....

Brighton and Hove Junior School Fairtrade Event.
We had a great time at Brighton and Hove Junior School on Friday night, taking part in their Fairtrade event. The event was well supported and we met lots of lovely children and parents who were all committed to ‘Take a Step for Fairtrade.
We displayed all of our lovely ‘Baby steps to Fairtrade’ artwork which looked really colourful and it was great to see all of the little footprint pledges. We received a great deal of interest in our products and spoke to dozens of people about why we have chosen to use Fairtrade ingredients and why it is so important to us. The raw Shea Butter we displayed on our stand was rather a hit, with mums rubbing it into their hands for immediate nourishment. Claudine and I particularly enjoyed the Fairtrade chocolate samples too!
Thank you for Alison and the rest of the team that organised the event for allowing us to be part of it and for making it so successful.

Fairtrade Fortnight in full swing
Fairtrade Fortnight is in full swing and we have already received a great deal of press coverage for our events and activities. Our award winning Bumfluff nappy balm was featured in The Independent yesterday and our Relieving Trio of oils was part of the Fairtrade focus in The Metro last Thursday.
So, armed with our Fairtrade coffees, we are busily getting ready for the first of our events, ‘Baby Steps to Fairtrade’ in conjunction with Red Jelly creative play in Brighton where we are inviting little ones and their parents to paint their footprints for us to exhibit as part of a display at our second event at Brighton and Hove Junior School on Friday evening.
We use as many Fairtrade ingredients as are possible to source for our skin care range and all of our products have been certified by the Fairtrade Foundation. Fairtrade provides a better deal for producers in developing countries, creating opportunities for farmers and workers to improve their lives, their communities and protect their environment.
Take the raw shea butter we use in our nappy balm for example. This is produced in Ghana by the Akoma Co-operative Multipurpose Society who process nuts gathered from the karite tree grown in Bolgatanga Upper East Region Ghana. The Fairtrade premium received is helping members of the village of Pisi-Namogo, particularly the more vulnerable women, children

FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT 27th Feb-11th March 2012
We are really happy that another Fairtrade Fortnight has come around again. We are always racking our brains to see how we can help and get involved to raise awareness about Fairtrade products and as most of you know, Fairtrade is very important to us. We are the only full baby range on the UK market to have both Fairtrade Foundation certification and Soil Association organic certification so we are always proud to shout about our suppliers and try to convert people whenever we can!
This week we are calling out for mums to get their babies involved with making a "Step towards Fairtrade" which is this years theme. We will be attending the "Red Jelly" painting workshop on Thursday this week in Hove to help children paint their footprints onto paper and have arranged to exhibit the artwork at a local Fairtrade event this Friday evening at the Brighton and Hove Junior School where we will also show our products and give out samples.
This is a call for entries into this competition that not only will raise awareness about the Foundation and its farmers but also give you the chance to win a bag or Organic Monkey goodies!
Please send photos of your baby's footprints to hello@organicmonkey.co.uk and we will add them to the exhibition this Friday.
Take your first baby step towards Fairtrade this week!

A good running
We found out this week that we didn't win in the Health and Beauty category for the Venture Candy competition. But we're not sore losers.. We are very happy to have got as far as we did and are proud that only after 1 year of trading we had such amazing feedback from the judging panel and public.
We will continue our journey of formulating lots of Organic products that are safe for your little ones' skin and hope to educate the masses about a natural, more organic way of looking after your little monkeys...
So this is an even BIGGER Thank you to those who voted for us and we will be back next year!!..

A BIG Thank you
We had a manic few days over the weekend waiting for votes to come in for the Venture Candy competition. We have been very nervous but when we realised how much support we have from all of our followers and friends, it made us feel all warm inside. So this is a BIG Thank you to all of you who voted. We should know the outcome this week we hope, but whatever happens, we feel very lucky to have all of you!
Lots of love, The Organic Monkey team x
